What is STEAM?

Just when you had become comfortable the concept of STEM, a new term, STEAM, emerged. You may be asking yourself: What is STEAM? Well, we have the answer for you!

You can rest easy because STEAM is not much different than STEM. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. STEAM is all of those same things with one added word: Art. We don’t know what took so long for people to blend the arts in with science and technology but we sure are happy about it!

The Beatbox by rhythmo is the perfect product to instill STEAM concepts. With many STEM toys and products there is not much application after assembly. Just think of that LEGO Death Star that has sat unmoved and undusted on a shelf for longer than you can remember. Assembly should only be the first part of the fun.

The Beatbox comes unassembled. It takes about an hour to put together. It comes with everything you need including speakers, and a battery pack. It is made up of recyclable cardboard to which you attach Japanese style arcade buttons, a joy stick, and parameter knobs that also function as buttons. The cardboard exterior is for you to design! Cover it with stickers, color it in with markers, the possibilities are endless.

Decorating your Beatbox is just the very beginning of the art aspect. Another artistic application is the beat making, of course! The Beatbox comes with an app loaded up with tutorials so you can be finger drumming and beat making in no time. Once you get the hang of it the creative applications are endless.

The Beatbox comes with an iOS and Android supported app so you don’t have to splurge on software. The app comes with tutorials and preloaded samples to learn and practice with. Within the app you can record and save your beats and upload samples to play with. The Beatbox is also compatible with most existing music production softwares.

The crowdfunding campaign by Rhythmo for the Beatbox launches in late August. It will retail for $150, but there is a special discount for supporters who are signed up for our newsletter. Stay up to date with us by following us on social media and subscribing to our newsletter.
